Mamie, a young orphan with a traumatic past, finds a new family with Mrs. Caldwell and her son Alexander, whom she nicknames Zander. When Mrs. Caldwell passes away, Mamie is devastated to learn that the authorities plan to send Zander to the same abusive orphanage where she was mistreated.
