In a small Welsh mining town in the 1960s, a doctor's sudden death sparks a search for a replacement. A union representative finds a skilled and cultured doctor from India, who wins over the community with his kindness and willingness to help. However, his wife's condescending attitude towards the locals creates tension, leading her to dream of leaving for London.
