Fresh out of West Point, Lt. Hazard arrives at Fort Delivery in Arizona Territory, where he's shocked by the lax discipline among the troops. He tightens the reins, imposing strict drills and curbing privileges. As he settles in, he finds himself drawn to Kitty, the wife of his commanding officer. But his romance is complicated by the arrival of his fiancée from the East Coast. Just as tensions rise, conflicts with local Indians force Hazard to shift his focus back to military duties, where his sympathies for the Indians' cause put him at odds with his responsibilities.
