The film tells the story of George Armstrong Custer's life, from his arrival at West Point in 1857 to his death at the Battle of Little Big Horn in 1876. Despite struggling with discipline at the academy, Custer finds support from Commandant Phil Sheridan and meets his future wife, Elizabeth Bacon. He graduates early due to the Civil War and serves with distinction, earning a promotion to Brigadier General. After the war, he's appointed Lt. Colonel of the 7th Cavalry by General Scott, arranged by his wife. Custer becomes a champion of the Indians, fighting against injustice, particularly his old rival Ned Sharp, who seeks to exploit them for personal gain. Tragically, Custer dies at the Battle of Little Big Horn on June 25, 1876, at the age of 36.
