A Murder in the Park background

A Murder in the Park

Anthony Porter, a former death-row inmate, had his case re-examined by documentary filmmakers who uncovered evidence suggesting he was guilty, leading to the possibility that an innocent person was wrongly imprisoned.

In 1999, a Northwestern University journalism class led by Professor David Protess helped save the life of Anthony Porter, a convicted killer, by uncovering evidence that pointed to Alstory Simon as the real killer. As a result, Porter was released and became a symbol of the anti-death penalty movement, ultimately contributing to Illinois' abolition of the death penalty.
