In 19th-century Dublin, Albert Nobbs, a middle-aged man, works as a waiter in Morrison's Hotel, dreaming of running his own business. He's lonely and isolated until he meets Hubert Page, a painter who reveals a different path: marriage and emotional support. Albert falls for his co-worker Helen, but she's already involved with Joe.
