The movie follows a series of mysterious disappearances of young girls, including dancer Thalia Arnold, who is found murdered. Police-detective Captain McVeigh suspects King Peterson, a nightclub operator and owner of the Crescent School of Fine Arts, of knowing something about the missing girls. As the investigation unfolds, Nora, a reporter and daughter of Peterson's silent partner, Joseph Thompson, becomes embroiled in the case and begins to uncover clues that point to a sinister plot involving the school and its employees.
