Marion Scott, a WW II veteran, is hitchhiking to a small town to make a new home. He meets Wilhelmina Hammond, a wealthy society girl running away from her fiancé, and they're arrested for car theft. Wilhelmina releases Marion and takes him to her estate, where she hires him as a chauffeur despite her family's objections. As Wilhelmina's family tries to break up their non-existent romance, Marion and Wilhelmina continue to bicker, while Aunt Harriet secretly roots for them.
