A man originally sentenced to death is given a second chance when his sentence is commuted to life in prison. With the support of a compassionate prison guard, he finds redemption and discovers a talent for painting while serving his time at Dannemora Prison.

John Resko, a man on death row for murder, is given a reprieve and transferred to Dannemora prison. Initially, he struggles to adjust to life there, facing challenges from fellow prisoners, prison administration, and news from his family. Despite this, he befriends some of his fellow inmates and discovers a passion for art, which ultimately leads to an unexpected outcome.
