Marc Fury, a small-time racketeer, agrees to plead self-defense for a murder committed by Joe Farrow, a gang boss, in exchange for Farrow's $50,000 I.O.U. After being acquitted, Fury faces deportation unless he can convince a judge to let him stay. As he works with Lynn Warren, a volunteer worker, to help a family of European refugees, Fury's tough exterior begins to soften. However, Farrow reneges on their deal, leading to a dramatic conclusion at Fury's final deportation hearing.
