Identity and survival are put to the test for a young American girl who finds herself caught up in the Hitler Youth during World War II, struggling to adapt to her new German identity.

The film begins in 1933, set in Berlin where a school for American students and the Hitler Youth are adjacent. Karl, a Hitler Youth student, develops a crush on Anna, a German-American girl at the American school, but their paths diverge due to events. Six years later, as war looms in Europe, Anna is taken from the school due to suspicions of her German citizenship. Nichols, Anna's former teacher, becomes consumed by finding her, and Anna faces a harrowing journey through the Nazi regime.
