A cattle rancher, Belnap, discovers his herd is infected with hoof and mouth disease and rushes to ship them away, but Gene, a vigilant cattleman, finds an infected cow and quarantines all the herds. Belnap then tries to deceive Gene by altering the brand of an infected cow to match the Wheeler herd, which is known to be disease-free, prompting Gene to launch an investigation to uncover the truth.
