Shane Bradley, a struggling writer, is stuck in a dead-end job writing catalog descriptions. His life takes a turn when he becomes consumed by the Canada-Russia hockey summit series, falls for his long-time friend Margaret, and develops an addiction to gambling. As his fortunes decline, Shane's relationships with his friends and love interest also start to unravel. With debt looming, Shane and his friends come up with a plan to raise the money to pay off a loan shark, Bill, while Shane fights to break even and turn his life around.
