Mark Felt: The Man Who Brought Down the White House background

Mark Felt: The Man Who Brought Down the White House

Mark Felt, also known as Deep Throat, worked behind the scenes with journalists Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein to uncover the truth about the Watergate scandal in 1972.

In 1972, FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover's death led to the appointment of L. Patrick Gray as Acting Director. Mark Felt, a dedicated FBI employee, felt snubbed after being passed over for the job. His daughter, Joan, had gone missing, and he was too busy with work to look for her. The FBI's first case under Gray was the Watergate break-in, which seemed to be connected to the White House and the Committee for the Re-Election of the President. Felt decided to go rogue, leaking information to the media to gain independence for the FBI and uncover the truth. He became known as Deep Throat, working with reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein to expose the scandal.
