A writer and theologian, John Hull, lost his sight in 1983, just before the birth of his first son, and turned to recording his thoughts on audiocassette to navigate the sudden loss of his sight.

Writer John Hull went blind in 1983, just before the birth of his son. To cope, he kept an audiocassette diary, which later became a masterpiece, praised by Oliver Sacks as "the most extraordinary, precise, deep and beautiful account of blindness."
