A space shuttle carrying an experimental hybrid creature, V.I.P.E.R., malfunctions and kills the crew. Meanwhile, a second prototype is stolen from a high-security facility, and the thieves' plane crashes, releasing V.I.P.E.R. into a reservoir in New Mexico. As it grows and multiplies, it begins to terrorize the local population, and a special agent and the project head must track it down before it's too late.
