A determined entrepreneur, scarred by the Chicago Fire, rebuilds his department store, only to confront a new challenge when his children struggle to share his zeal and business acumen.

After the devastating Chicago Fire, Daniel Pardway rises from the ashes to establish the city's largest department store. He hopes to hand the reins over to his children, but is dismayed to find his daughter and sons lack the passion or talent to carry on the family legacy.
