Tamahine background

Tamahine

A young Polynesian girl navigates a new life in England with her uncle, leading to comical misunderstandings and heartwarming bonds with her peers.

Tamahine, a teenager from the South Pacific, travels to Britain to learn about her British heritage and proper customs after her father's passing. She becomes the ward of her father's cousin, Charles Poole, who is the headmaster of an upper-class boys' school. Tamahine's frank talk and relaxed attitude cause an uproar at the school, but she is unaware of the stir she is causing. Despite being the object of affection for many students, including Richard Poole, her cousin, Tamahine considers a romance with him taboo. However, her presence may bring joy and openness to the repressed atmosphere at the school.
