When Chris visits RJ in Portland, their relationship is put to the test after the LDS church announces a ban on baptisms for children of same-sex couples. They disagree on how to handle the news, with RJ wanting to distance himself from the Church and Chris still holding on to his faith. The tension between them continues as Chris returns home, but RJ's support during Chris' mother's sudden passing brings them closer together. Chris' father, a high-ranking Church official, begins to question the Church's stance on same-sex relationships, but his efforts to change the policy are unsuccessful.
