After losing his job as a respected sports journalist, Eddie Willis is approached by a major fight promoter to become the public relations man for a new heavyweight fighter, Toro Moreno. Despite recognizing Toro's lack of potential, Eddie agrees to the lucrative offer and helps the promoter rig a series of fights to build up Toro's record and ultimately secure a title bout against the heavyweight champion.
