A pediatrician, Francesca, struggles with postpartum depression after having a new baby, despite her husband Pedro and friend Jean's efforts to help her. As she becomes increasingly obsessed with her child, Francesca begins to experience hallucinations and hear/see strange things, such as furtive figures and ghostly shadows. The family's new home, with its locked and barred cellar and attic, seems to hold dark secrets that fuel Francesca's descent into madness.
