The Killing Fields background

The Killing Fields

A journalist finds himself stranded in Cambodia during the brutal "Year Zero" era, struggling to survive amidst the atrocities committed by the Pol Pot regime, which mercilessly slaughtered nearly two million innocent people deemed "undesirable".

In the midst of Cambodia's devastating civil war, a New York Times journalist, Sydney Schanberg, and his local counterpart, Dith Pran, bear witness to the war's brutal horrors. As the American forces retreat, Pran's family flees with them, but he remains behind, risking his life to aid Schanberg's reporting. While Schanberg, as an American, can easily escape, Pran's fate is tied to the war-torn country, and the approaching Khmer Rouge pose a grave threat to his survival.
