A former WWII fighter pilot, Charlie Halliday, a bush pilot based in Yellowknife, makes a personal plane trip and discovers a nomadic Inuit family, including a woman named Kanaalaq, who may have tuberculosis. He agrees to fly her to a hospital in exchange for ivory, but their plane crashes due to mechanical issues. Stranded in the wilderness with limited supplies and unable to communicate, Charlie and Kanaalaq must rely on each other to survive as winter approaches.
