Thelma, a shy and devout Christian, leaves her isolated countryside home to attend university in Oslo against her parents' will. She forms an unexpected friendship with Anja, a beautiful fellow student, which broadens her horizons and introduces her to new feelings. As Thelma struggles to cope with these emotions, she begins to experience a psychosomatic manifestation of repressed feelings.
