A widowed king, known as "King Myself, First", demands his daughters measure their love for him in terms of precious metals or talent. One daughter's response, "more than salt", is misinterpreted and she's banished. The king's arrogance leads him to destroy all salt in the kingdom, only to realize its universal value and the true meaning of his daughter's words. With the help of a wise old herb woman, the king learns to become a true and wise ruler.
