A veteran of World War I finds new purpose in life by producing a spectacular musical show for his fellow soldiers.

During World War I, a dancer named Jerry Jones stages a Broadway show featuring all soldiers, called Yip Yip Yaphank. After being wounded, he becomes a producer. In World War II, his son Johnny Jones, who previously assisted his father, is ordered to create a new all-soldier show, titled This is the Army.
