Ichi, a wanted man, searches for peace in a village he once knew, only to find it overrun by Boss Masagoro, who has stolen gold from the shogunate. The boss's enforcer, Yojimbo, is a complex character, working as a spy for the shogunate while also being in love with the merchant's mistress, Umeno. Ichi becomes the merchant's masseur and buys Umeno's freedom, leading Yojimbo to withdraw his support for a gang war between the father and son. As the two sides clash, Ichi finds the stolen gold and orchestrates a final showdown.
