Eleven-year-old Danny Bara lives with her uncle Eddie, a horse trainer, at the track. She knows the horses, scams, and odds makers, and is determined to help her uncle succeed by finding a great horse. When she discovers a yearling named Tom Thumb, she knows it has champion potential and convinces her uncle to buy it. As Tom Thumb wins races, Danny's hunch proves correct, and she, her uncle, and their friend Gerald become successful. However, their success attracts unwanted attention, and they face challenges and dirty dealing from other owners.
