Gang leader Big Mike Morgan's death sets off a chain reaction, with his lieutenant "Doc" Rogers reorganizing the mob and installing Morgan's son Edward as the head of Acme Protective Agency, a front for the gang's shakedown activities. Edward, unaware of his father's true business, thinks he's running a legitimate insurance company. As the gang's money troubles escalate, Edward's relationships with Virginia, a transportation company head, and his sweetheart, create unexpected complications that threaten to topple the gang's operation.
