The small town of Johnsonville, where every resident shares the same last name, is threatened by the expansion of the railroad, which requires the acquisition of their land. To achieve this, Hedley Lemar, a ruthless and well-connected individual, dispatches his henchmen to make the town uninhabitable. Following the sheriff's tragic death, the townspeople petition the Governor for a new sheriff, but Hedley manipulates him into appointing the town's first law enforcement officer.
