In the late 19th century, Philadelphia, a romantic rivalry unfolds between two sisters vying for the attention of a charming Frenchman as he prepares the French pavilion for the grand Centennial exposition.

In 1876, Philadelphia celebrates America's 100th birthday. The Rogers family welcomes Aunt Zenia, who brings a charming Frenchman, Philippe, to manage the French pavilion. The daughters, Julia and Edith, fall for Philippe, while their father, Jesse, tries to advance his inventions and hold onto his railroad job.
