Sunset Carson, a Pony Express rider, embarks on his final trip, only to discover the attendant murdered at his final station. Ambushed by masked men, he's left for dead after they steal a letter from his pouch. When he arrives in Big Rock Springs, he apologizes for not delivering a stolen letter to Martha Taylor, and she and her brother Tom offer him a job at their ranch. As he investigates mysterious happenings, he uncovers a plot by neighboring ranchers Spade Gilbert and Grand Dawson to sabotage the Taylor's chances of landing a Western Union project.
