In contemporary London, Dorian Gray, a young man, falls for aspiring actress Sybil Vane, becoming less self-centered. He sittings for a portrait by friend Basil Hallward, who warns him that his beauty will fade, but the painting won't. Dorian's corruption begins as he slaps Sybil and sleeps with a hostess, and the painting reflects his growing age. He hides the portrait, continuing a life of degradation, while his appearance remains youthful.
