A young Brazilian woman, Elena, flees her childhood of hiding during a military dictatorship to pursue her dream of becoming a movie actress in New York, leaving behind her 7-year-old sister Petra. Two decades later, Petra, now an actress herself, travels to New York seeking Elena, armed with only a few clues, including home movies, newspaper clippings, a diary, and letters. As Petra searches for her sister, their features begin to blur, making it difficult to distinguish one from the other.
