In 1941, Robert E. Lee Prewitt is stationed at Schofield in Hawaii after requesting a transfer from the Army. His new captain, Dana Holmes, is eager to have him represent the company in boxing, but Prew refuses, leading to a series of challenges from his subordinates. Meanwhile, Sergeant Warden becomes involved with the captain's wife, who seeks comfort outside her troubled marriage.
