Kenny Delmar stars as Senator Beauregard Claghorn, a blustery character from Fred Allen's radio program. Claghorn is a one-man-Chamber-of-Commerce for all things Southern, with no tolerance for anything north of the Mason-Dixon line, except for South Philly. He gets into financial difficulties and is forced to enter a race for state senator against his wife, who appears to have a good chance of winning.

A small town's Dixie group's daughters challenge the local political machine's dominance by nominating a candidate for State Senator, only to face a rival candidate chosen by the machine to split the anti-machine vote and secure their own win.
