Manikarnika, a princess from Varanasi, is proposed to marry Gangadar Rao, the prince of Jhansi. However, Sadashiv Rao plots with British officers to conquer Jhansi, seeking a stake in the kingdom. When Gangadar Rao's son is born, Sadashiv Rao poisons the holy water, causing the child's death. Gangadar Rao dies soon after, leaving behind a toddler whom Lakshmi Bai adopts. The East India Company sees an opportunity to conquer Jhansi since it has no male ruler, but Lakshmi Bai decides to take the throne and fight for her kingdom.
