The film is a 30-minute continuation of the Neon Genesis Evangelion storyline, concluding the first 24 episodes and serving as the opening segment of The End of Evangelion.
The Evangelion saga from TV is reimagined with new scenes in part one, "Shin Seiki Evangelion" (1995). Part two begins immediately after, as NERV's usefulness ends and SEELE launches a surprise attack on the headquarters.
