In a prehistoric setting, Tumak, a fierce warrior from the Rock tribe, is banished and finds refuge with the peaceful Shell tribe. He is taken under the wing of the lovely Loana, who teaches him refined ways. When Tumak's aggressive nature gets the best of him, he and Loana return to the Rock tribe, where Loana's compassion helps transform the tribe's brutal customs. However, their newfound harmony is disrupted by a devastating volcanic eruption.
