A young woman with a mysterious past, her name a reflection of her enigmatic history, finds solace and passion in dance while growing up in an orphanage.

Sally, an orphan named after a telephone exchange, finds joy in dancing at the orphanage. After working as a waitress, she lands a job that combines her love of dance with her new career. There, she meets Blair and falls for him, but he's engaged to Marcia. Sally gets hired to impersonate Russian dancer Noskerova, but her ruse is discovered, and she learns Blair is engaged. Despite this, she perseveres, takes her show to Broadway, and still harbors feelings for Blair.
