As the war in Iraq intensifies in April 2004, a lieutenant colonel, Michael Strobl, is tasked with escorting the remains of 19-year-old Pfc. Chance Phelps from Dover to his Wyoming hometown. Along the way, Strobl witnesses the nation's gratitude and respect for the fallen soldier, and in doing so, discovers his own sense of purpose and meaning.
