Mohanlal plays Vinod/Vinu, a mentally ill patient hospitalized in an institution run by Dr. Ravindran. With the help of Dr. Savithri, her father's daughter, and Dr. Unnikrishnan, Vinu recovers from his illness. He falls in love with Dr. Savithri, but their romance is opposed by Dr. Ravindran due to their social differences.
