Thikkurissy Sukumaran Nair, a multi-talented Indian individual, was born on October 16, 1916, in the village of Thikkurissy, Nagercoil, which was then part of Travancore. He was a renowned poet, playwright, script writer, lyricist, orator, film director, and actor, best recognized for his contributions to Malayalam cinema.
Throughout his illustrious career, spanning approximately 47 years, Nair acted in over 700 films, earning him the title of the first movie superstar in Malayalam cinema. He began his journey in the film industry in 1950 with the film adaptation of his breakthrough play, Sthree.
Before entering the film world, Nair made a name for himself as a playwright, with his plays Mareechika and Kalakaran receiving immense success. He was a trailblazer in the industry, launching the careers of numerous actors, including Prem Nazir, Madhu, Bahadoor, and Jose Prakash, by giving them screen-names.
Thikkurissy Sukumaran Nair's remarkable achievements did not go unnoticed, and he was awarded the prestigious Padmashri by the Government of India, one of the highest civilian honors in the country.
Tragically, Nair's life came to an end on March 11, 1997, at the age of 80, due to renal failure in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Despite his passing, his legacy continues to inspire and influence the Malayalam film industry, solidifying his position as a legend in the world of cinema.
