Isa Tostin, a drifter, travels to Lille to reunite with her former boyfriend, only to find he's moved to Belgium. With no funds, she takes a job at a clothing factory, befriending Marie Thomas, her coworker. Despite their contrasting personalities, they form a bond. Marie takes care of an apartment whose owners are recovering from an accident, and Isa stays with her until a devastating event occurs.
