In a small Singaporean house, an 18-year-old maid named Rosa Dimaano arrives from the Philippines to support her family. She's welcomed by the Teo family, owners of a Chinese opera troupe, and their son Ah-Soon, who has a mental disability. Mrs. Teo explains the family's beliefs about respecting the dead during the seventh month of the lunar calendar. However, Rosa breaks a rule by sweeping the sidewalk, offending the vengeful spirits, and soon finds herself haunted everywhere. When Ah-Soon mistakenly calls her Esther Santos, Rosa discovers a dark secret about her masters' past, hidden in the house.
The Maid
In ancient Chinese folklore, the seventh lunar month is said to bring forth malevolent spirits and famished ghosts from the underworld, seeking revenge and justice on the living before returning to their eternal slumber.
