As a priest in the Vatican observatory detects a comet, the Church believes it confirms the impending apocalypse. Meanwhile, Robert Thorn, the US President's godson, is told by Father Spiletto that his wife has lost their baby and cannot have another. Spiletto suggests substituting a newborn, Damien, whose mother has died, and Robert accepts. As the years pass, Katherine becomes convinced that Damien is evil, while Robert is contacted by Father Brennan, who reveals Damien is the devil's son.
