Charles Mortimer is so focused on a business deal in a Latin American country that he neglects his wife Teri, unaware of her growing discontent. To grab his attention, Teri plots to make him jealous, buying an expensive diamond ring. However, their visit to a jewel shop is interrupted by a robbery, and the ring is stolen. Later, the Mortimers host a state dinner for the president, where they unexpectedly encounter the suave robber, who has caught Teri's eye.
