In 19th century Wales, a young widow, Catherine Morgan, fights to save her home and daughters from poverty and loss after her war-hero husband's death leaves them with unpaid debts. To secure their future, she embarks on a perilous cattle drive across the Welsh countryside, facing numerous challenges and obstacles, including the unwanted advances of an obsessive sheriff. Along the way, she finds solace and guidance from a rugged drover, who is also the sheriff's half-brother, and must confront her own insecurities in their complicated relationship.
