In the spring of 1941, President Roosevelt orders increased military readiness. Malowski, a good-humored New York City taxi driver, enlists at Fort Knox, Kentucky, and learns tank mechanics, driving, and weapons operation. However, his plans are derailed when a sergeant turns him in for having his taxi, Betsy, on the post, forcing him to hide her in an old shed. As the maneuvers begin, Malowski must navigate his new role and the fate of his beloved taxi.
