In the isolated town of Elwood, a group of young adults, trained by former military soldier Seiler, work together to protect the community from the dangers outside, where a suspected global infection linked to fracking has taken hold. However, as they patrol the perimeter fence that keeps the residents inside, they begin to realize that the true horror lies within the town itself, where fear and dread are building up. One young resident, Ian Sommers, becomes desperate to escape, and sets out to convince others to join him in a bid for freedom, despite the unknown dangers that await beyond the fence.
